Spiritual myth debunked

One of the biggest spiritual myths when I started down the spiritual pathway I had a belief it would all be happy, joyful, friendly and upbeat.

Oh how wrong I was. Or at least oh how naive I was.

*Trigger warning – some of you may really not like this one – but it’s all from my lived personal experience.*

There’s is a MASSIVE misconception that energy work is all “love and light”, “good vibes only” and other spiritual bypassing type language.

After being chucked in at the deep end with no warning that this might not in fact be the case. I’ve had to navigate myself around a whole host of not so nice stuff over the years.

  • Energetic attack (the real deal)
  • Dark night of the soul
  • Depression and emotional breakdown
  • Real highs followed by complete lows
  • Old stuff smashing its way to the surface.

And a whole host of other fun stuff that I don’t need to list as you’ll get the gist.

Don’t get me wrong I have had loads of very positive, helpful experiences along the way as well.

The good news is it didn’t break me.

It didn’t scare me off and I grew a hell of a lot stronger and can now do what I do because of it. There is incredible growth in the hard work. But it took years. That’s why I do what I do now and share my experiences. So you can learn from my mistakes and possibly not repeat them.

But and this is a big but. I wish to the wee man that someone had given me a heads up before I started. It’s not that anything really would have been different but I would have had an idea that it’s not all unicorn rainbow farts and that ego is alive and well in the spiritual field.

When you start to see it come through it’s very hard to miss. And you start to recognise it quickly. You’ll know in your gut when someone is being authentic and when someone’s at it. It may be you have to experience the piss-take merchants for yourself. I’ve been there and spent money doing it so I get it. But you’ll probably not repeat it.

It can and does teach you how NOT to be if you take things further and start helping others or creating your own business.

Where to start

So the key thing when starting out with the spiritual field/energy work, or keeping going is to listen to your gut or your discernment. It doesn’t steer you wrong.

If it feels all good then it’s all good, it if feels not quite right then it likely isn’t. An example: you’ve been following someone (and this 100% includes me) for a while and something the say feels off. Or as we say up here “I smell shite!” then maybe step back and re-assess things.

  • Is it something that keeps repeating?
  • Do you feel better having that distance and can hear yourself once more?
  • Can you find yourself repeating phrases verbatim and then wonder what the hell made you say that when you don’t believe it?

Yeah take a step back and observe instead.

If you are told to suppress or ignore your emotions, that your feelings or experience isn’t valid or (one of the worst) you “brought it on yourself” perhaps this is not the person for you.

More and more people who work with energy are speaking out and reminding us that it’s all about balance. There is light and shadow and combined they create balance. If you have one outweighing the other it can lead to issues.

Balance is key when sorting spiritual myth from reality

We strive for balance in all things. And yes while I help people more with the shadow side of things as that’s where I’m guided to look. I also like a quiet life from time to time with a bit of laughter and joy. That’s where the crystals come in for me.

In all aspects of life the white-washing is usually hiding something. Look past the surface that is presented and find the authentic voices that speak to you deeply. That resonate with YOUR lived experience and that don’t try to tell you how to live your life 🙂

If nothing else take it from someone who’s been through it and is here to share the tale. It’s not all love and light and it’s not all doom and gloom.

It’s a funny business energy eh but we wouldn’t be without it.
